HENRI RAPHAËL MONCASSIN 1883 Toulouse - 1958 Paris 'AMOR / EROS' - ALLEGORICAL FIGURE OF A YOUTH Plaster, white-finished, fully modeled in the round. H. approx. 85, W. 61, D. 48 cm. Inscribed 'H.R. Moncassin' on the front of the base. A dynamically composed depiction of a largely unclothed youth in a vigorous lunge across a naturalistically modeled rocky base. A sweeping length of cloth, caught by the wind, envelops the body and enhances the sense of movement in the composition. A rare studio model (plâtre d'atelier) by the French sculptor Vital Henri Raphaël Moncassin. Part. chips and shrinkage cracks. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
