A VERY FINE AND MASSIVE FABERGÉ TEA SET: A SILVER HOT WATER URN AND A SILVER TEAPOT WITH STRAINER* Russian, St Petersburg, Fabergé, workmaster Julius Rappoport, 1899-1903 Spherical, on a stand, the upper mount chased and engraved with foliate friezes, the stretcher holding the circular burner, with foliate and gadrooned mounts and ivory handle. The handle mounts and the laurel wreath finials of the hinged covers are formed as sculptural ram's heads. Hallmarked with assayer's mark, 88 standard, 'FABERGÉ' in Cyrillic with Imperial warrant, and the workmaster's mark 'IR' in Cyrillic. Minor dents. 12.7 cm long (strainer), 17 cm high (teapot), 32.5 cm high (hot water urn), total weight 3791 g. Julius Rappoport ranks among the most important Fabergé workmasters at the turn of the century. Descending from a distinguished goldsmithing family, he directed one of Fabergé's principal St Petersburg workshops from the 1880s onward and was especially renowned for large-scale silver works of exceptional technical and artistic quality. His designs combine masterful craftsmanship with a powerful, sculptural vocabulary and finely chased decoration inspired by historical styles, reflecting the ceremonial splendour of the late Imperial era. * CITES certificate available.
