A PAIR OF STONE ANIMAL FIGURES Soviet Union, Kyzyl (Tuva), Raisa Azhyevna Arakchaa (1925-1990), Bayyr Sarygovich Bayyndy (1921-1980), 1968 Carved. Each signed in Cyrillic on the bottom, one figure dated '7/VII-68'. Raisa Arakchaa and Bayyr Bayyndy are essential figures of Tuvan small-form sculpture who shaped the unique identity of the national school of agalmatolite carving. Raisa Arakchaa made history as Tuva's first female stone carver, and Bayyr Bayyndy was a founder of a celebrated artistic dynasty. Created in the art workshops of Kyzyl, their animalistic and genre sculptures represent the golden fund of Tuva's cultural heritage. Each 15 cm long.
