Description
A LARGE PORCELAIN PLATTER SHOWING A SCENE IN A TAVERN Russian, M.S. Kuznetsov Porcelain Factory, Oskar Adolfovich Hoffmann (1851-1912), 1909 Underglaze blue painting. Signed in Cyrillic and dated above 'Osk. Hoffmann 09.', at the bottom factory stamp with a double-headed eagle and nr. 20 as well as inscr. in Cyrillic with a date 'J. Sakhár 24/IV 1909'. Oskar Hoffmann was a Russian-German painter of Estonian origin. After studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he worked in Saint Petersburg where he also was a free member of the Imperial Art Academy. Genre and everyday scenes, as well as natural landscapes, were the central motifs of his works. Part. rest. on the edge. Diam. 51 cm.
