A MONUMENTAL AND RARE ICON SHOWING THE MOTHER OF GOD AVGUSTOVSKAYA Russian, Moscow, probably Alexei Yakovlevich Vashurov, after 1915 Oil on wood panel. The border gilded and incised to resemble a chased gilded silver and enamel oklad. This rare icon showing the Mother of God Augustovskaya commemorating the apparition of the Virgin to Russian troops during World War I before the victorious Battle of Augustov. Minimally restored. 105.5 x 69.5 cm.
