A RARE ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD OF THE PSKOV CAVES WITH SILVER OKLAD Russian, early 19th century (icon), Russia, Pskov, 1833 (oklad) Oil on wood panel. the silver oklad chased and repoussé in high relief with foliage, and flowers. Struck assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'AF' in Cyrillic. Minor paint loss. 16.8 x 12.7 cm. Together with an envelope dated 1908, addressed by Alfred Balfanz to his business partner in St. Petersburg. The icon was probably acquired by Alfred Balfanz during one of his business trips to Russia.
