A VERY FINE DATED ICON OF THE 'IVERSKAYA' MOTHER OF GOD WITH A SILVER-GILT OKLAD Russian, dated 1796 (icon), Russian, Moscow, 1831 (oklad) Oil on wood panel. The background made of gold. The silver-gilt oklad with a repoussé foliate border along the edges. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark. Cyrillic inscription along the lower edge: 'Representation [.] of the miracle-working icon of Our Mother of God Iverskaya, acquired (?) at the Safonievsky-Molchensky Monastery ('Pustyn'); painted in 1796, in the month of January, on the 25th day.' Minor losses to the surface. 31.3 x 26 cm.
