Description
A VERY FINE AND RARE ICON 'LET ALL THAT HAS BREATH PRAISE THE LORD' Russia, Mstera, 19th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The haloes and background made of gold. A finely executed composition based on Psalm 150:6 ("Let everything that has breath praise the Lord"). In the upper part, God the Father is enthroned in the heavens, surrounded by angels. Below, rows of saints appear, while additional figures - ordinary believers without halos - fill the scene, symbolizing the entire community praising Christ. At the center rises a stylized hill, partly covered with trees; around it birds and animals move, and at its base geese swim in the water. These creatures embody the message that not only humankind, but all living beings give praise to the Lord. The icon unites heaven and earth, the sacred and the everyday, expressing the universality of divine praise - from the highest angels to the smallest creatures. Minor retouching. 30.8 x 26.2 cm.
