A VERY FINE ICON WITH THE DESCENT INTO HELL AND THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST WITH SIXTEEN MAJOR FEASTS WITH SILVEr-GILT RIZA Central Russian, early 19th century (icon), Russian, Moscow, 1817 (riza) Tempera on wood panel, gold ground, chrysography. The episodes executed in detail, the individual figures of classical proportions with meticulously portrayed faces rendered with bright colours. The riza of silver-gilt, edged with a palmette border. Struck with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'PA' in Cyrillic. The border stripped to gesso. 32.5 × 27.7 cm.
