Description
A VERY FINE DATED ICON OF THE WARRIOR SAINT THEODOR STRATELATES Russian, Kostroma, dated 1913 Tempera on wood panel. The gilt background ornately incised. The borders ornately incised and painted in faux enameling. On the reverse Cyrillic dedicatory inscriptions: 'This holy icon was painted on commission of the Orthodox Fedorov-Sergievsky Brotherhood in Kostroma. Received on December 29, 1913. Consecrated in the Khriretsk Church on February 8, 1914. Fedor Kharitonov. The inscription was read on May 17, 1941 by Fedor Kharitonov's grandson Sergei Kharitonov and granddaughter Nina Kharitonova.' 35.6 x 30.8 cm. On October 15, 1887, in the Sretensky Church of the Kostroma Theological Seminary, the Orthodox Kostroma Brotherhood of Saint Sergius was founded (in 1892 renamed the Theodor-Sergius Brotherhood).
