Description
A SMALL ICON SHOWING THE MANDYLION WITH A SILVER OKLAD Russian, 18th century (icon), Russian, Nigni-Novgorod, Aleksey Zakharov Grebenntshikov, 1790 (oklad) Tempera on wood panel. Executed on a gold ground. The silver oklad with elaborate repoussé floral designs in the Baroque style, the corners showing the four Evangelists. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark and master's mark 'AG' in Cyrillic. Partially restored. 25.4 x 23.5 cm.
