A LARGE AND VERY FINE ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD FEODOROVSKAYA WITH SCENES FROM THE HISTORY OF THE MIRACLE-WORKING IMAGE Russia, Old Believers' Workshop, circa 1800 Tempera on wood panel. Finely painted in great detail and bright colours against a golden background. The surrounding scenes depicting the following scenes: the discovery of the icon in a tree by Prince Theodore of Kostroma while hunting; the procession of the people of Kostroma coming to receive the icon; St. Theodore Stratelates transferring the icon from the town of Gorodets to Kostroma; Saints Basil and Cosmas; the icon surviving a fire unharmed; and the icon's protection during the battle against the Tatars.
