GIFT FOR THE 40TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: A FINE ICON WITH THE APOSTLE JAMES AND SAINT PARASKEVA Russian, dated 1887 Tempera on wood panel. The haloes made of gold. The folds of the garments are rendered in gold. On the reverse, a mounted metal plaque with a Cyrillic dedicatory inscription: 'To our dear parents Yakov Ivanovich and Paraskeva Mikhailovna Panfilov on their 40th wedding anniversary, from their beloved children. 11 July 1887.' Partially restored. 31.2 x 26.3 cm. J. I. Panfilov was a merchant from Yekaterinburg (d. after 1889), who, since the 1880s, owned a house at R. Luxemburg Street 65-67. His sons were Nikolai, Aleksander, and Sergei.
