VASSILY PAVLOVICH GURYANOV 1867-1920 A VERY FINE SIGNED AND DATED ICON DEPICTING SAINTS COSMAS, DAMIAN, NICHOLAS OF MYRA AND ATHENOGENES Russia, Moscow, dated 1902 Heavy cypress wood panel with two inserted splines on the reverse. Egg tempera on chalk ground, haloes gilded, drapery highlighted in chrysography. Cyrillic signature and date along the lower border: "Painted by V. P. Guryanov, 1902". The saints rendered frontally and full-length. Above them appear Saints Basil the Great and Demetrius, Metropolitan of Rostov, venerating the Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan. 35.5 × 30.7 cm. The reverse with applied plaque bearing a Cyrillic dedicatory inscription: "1867-1902. Presented to His Reverence Father Nikolai Pavlovich Zakharov by the parish community in grateful recognition, in commemoration of his holy priestly service in the village of Karas, 16 July 1902."
