A FINE ICON SHOWING THE DESCENT INTO HELL AND FIVE SELECTED FAMILY PATRON SAINTS Russian, mid 19th century Tempera on wood panel. The haloes made of gold. Full-length depiction of Saints Alexandra, Demetrius, Nicholas of Myra, Nicholas Kotchanov of Novgorod, and Olga, rendered as elegantly elongated figures with richly detailed ornamentation of their garments. Minor losses. On the reverse Cyrillic inscription, dated '1867'. 31.5 x 26.4 cm.
