Description
ARKADY ALEXANDROVICH RYLOV 1870 Istobensk, near Kirov - 1939 Leningrad OFFICER´S ORDERLY WITH SAMOVAR Dated (18)92 Oil on canvas on cardboard. 54,4 x 25,5 cm (F. 65 x 37 cm). Lower right dated '92'. Verso: double inscr. in Cyrllic 'A. Rylov'. The painting was created during Rylov's military service, before he began his studies at the Imperial Academy of Arts under the guidance of Arkhip Kuindzhi. Rylov mentions it in his memoirs: "I painted soldiers who were willing to pose. I even made an oil painting of a Karelian officer's orderly in a patched uniform, holding a shiny samovar."
