TWO HEART-SHAPED ZITHERS 'CARL RUCKMICH' Freiburg and Germany, c. 1890-1920 Heart-shaped bodies, fretted fingerboards; one features metal tuning mechanisms and bone pegs, the other wooden pegs; teardrop-shaped soundholes. Lengths approx. 51 cm and 48.5 cm; widths 31.5 cm and 28 cm. One zither bears a label: 'Carl Ruckmich, Freiburg i. Br., Großh. Bad. Hoflieferant'. Part. bumped; strings incomplete; one zither has a crack in the back. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse.
