Description
VIOLIN LABELED 'GIOVANNI BATTISTA ZANOLI' AND VIOLIN BOW Probably Verona, 19th century or later One-piece spruce top and maple back, dark brown varnish. 4/4 violin, length 59.5 cm, body length 35.7 cm. Violin label: 'Joannes Baptista Zanoli Verone fecit anno 1753'; handwritten note: 'Repaired by J. Rebaure in the past year by K.J. in 1936'. Violin bow, presumably from France, early 20th century, octagonal shaft, nickel silver mountings, bone frog, parts bumped and rubbed. Restored in the 1980s by Geigenbau Scholz, Düsseldorf; parts bumped and dmg; cracks in the top and sides, restored and filled. Provenance: According to the consignor, acquired in England-private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.
