SET OF FIVE ETHNOGRAPHIC STRING INSTRUMENTS AND TWO BOWS The Balkans, the Himalayan region, and South Asia, 20th century Resonance boxes partially carved from a single block of wood, with skin-covered tops, wooden bridges, wooden pegs, and carved pegboxes. Length of instruments approx. 55 to 86 cm, bows approx. 41.5/53 cm. Gusle, Balkans, length approx. 86 cm, with a double goat's head as the end of the pegbox and a richly carved back of the body. Gusle, Balkans, length approx. 85 cm, with a carved horse's head and rich notched carving. Gusle, Balkans, length approx. 63 cm, with a horse's head and a relief-carved back. Dramyen (Himalayan plucked flute), Tibet/Nepal/Bhutan, length approx. 55 cm, richly carved with a skin-covered soundbox. Rubab, Afghanistan/Northern India, length approx. 55 cm, made of solid wood with a skin-covered lower body and an angled pegbox. Gusle bow, Balkans, length approx. 41.5 cm. Ethnographic bow, Balkans/Orient, length approx. 53 cm. Partially bumped and damg., partly incomplete. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse.
