Description
HARDANGERVIOLIN 'HARDINGFELE' Norway, 20th century One-piece spruce back and maple back, eight pegs, painted inlay around the entire body, carved animal head. Length 65 cm, body length 35.6 cm. The Hardingfele is considered Norway's national instrument and evolved from the Baroque violin beginning in the 17th century. Its defining features are the four resonance strings running beneath the fingerboard, which vibrate in unison with the instrument when played, producing a rich, floating tone rich in overtones.
