Description
BURMESE BOW HARP 'SAUNG GAUK' Myanmar (Burma), 20th century Boat-shaped wooden soundbox, painted red; curved harp neck with a gilded, ornamentally carved finial; multi-stringed with tuning pegs; mounted on a stand. H. 88, L. approx. 87 cm. A traditional Burmese bow harp (Saung Gauk), the national instrument of Myanmar. Partially damaged, repaired, and restored; strings incomplete; functionality not tested.
