BANJO MANDOLIN Europe or USA, c. 1920-30 Octagonal wooden body, 8 strings, metal parts, skin head, fretted neck; includes a custom-fitted original case. Length approx. 60 cm. The banjo mandolin-also known as a "banjolin"-combines the resonant body of a banjo with the neck and tuning of a mandolin. This type of instrument enjoyed great popularity in dance and entertainment music, particularly during the 1920s and 1930s. Part. bumped and rubbed. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse.
