Description
PIERRE MONTÉZIN 1874 Paris - 1946 Moëlan-sur-Mer SPRING Oil on canvas. 54 x 66 cm (frame: 86 x 78 cm). Signed lower right. A paper label with a number is affixed to the lower left corner of the painting. Framed. Pierre Montézin received his first artistic training from his father, who worked as a lace pattern designer. For ten consecutive years - from 1893 to 1903 - his works were rejected by the Paris Salon. Only after the First World War did he develop his own style, a refined evolution of Impressionist techniques. With this approach, he achieved recognition at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he would later receive numerous awards. His landscapes, painted with loose brushwork and rich green tones, often recall postcard views of Normandy. They are characterized by their vitality and rural themes. His technique, at times, resembles a kind of pictorial "shorthand." Provenance: In the collection of Dr. Jean Michaux since 1931; a payment receipt is available.
