Description
JULIUS PAUL JUNGHANNS 1876 Vienna - 1958 Düsseldorf FISHERMEN AND GOATS ON THE LAKESHORE, circa 1914 Oil on canvas. 60 x 50 cm (frame: 82 x 72 cm). Signed and dated (difficult to read) lower left. Signed on the reverse on the canvas. Framed. Julius Paul Junghanns was a German painter best known for his depictions of animals and landscapes. Born on June 8, 1876, in Vienna, he grew up in Dresden, where he initially trained as a lithographer before studying at the School of Arts and Crafts and later at the Academy of Fine Arts. From 1899, he continued his studies at the Academy in Munich under the renowned animal painter Heinrich von Zügel-a formative period for his artistic development. In 1904, Junghanns was appointed to the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts, where he later became a professor and head of the master class for animal and plein air painting. Alongside his teaching career, he regularly exhibited his works and received several awards. The five paintings offered here come from a private collection and date from 1901 to 1920. They reflect both the early influence of his teacher Zügel and the artist's mature, independent style. Provenance: Estate of the Kaiser family, Gebr. Kaiser & Co. Leuchten KG.
