Description
VIKTOR (ALSO VICTOR) CAPPELLER 1831 Nuremberg - 1904 Frankfurt am Main TWO RELIEFS: MYTHOLOGICAL SCENE Bronze and cast metal, relief, dark patina, one relief framed. Diameter 52 cm, frame diameter 64 cm. One relief signed 'Victor Cappeller' and dated '1883', label on the reverse of the frame 'Eduard Schmidt Leipzig No. 28378 Kunsthandlung Rahmenfabrik'. A dramatically charged scene from mythology: a male warrior, armed with sword and shield, lies exhausted on the ground. Three Amazons rush to his aid, one of them depicted on horseback. The composition captivates with its dynamic presentation and the detailed elaboration of the figures, which is typical of Cappeller's classicist style. Partially repaired and loss of patina.
