ERNST BARLACH (AFTER) 1870 Wedel - 1938 Rostock 'SITTING OLD WOMAN' Bronze, dark patina, on rectangular plinth. H. 82.3, W. 31, D. 43 cm. Marked 'E. Barlach' on the side, dated '1933', foundry mark 'H. Noack Berlin' on the back of the plinth, posthumous casting. Expressive figure of the "Seated Old Woman." The introverted, compactly built figure with a calm, heavy physicality embodies Barlach's central themes of existence, age, and inner composure. Partial loss of patina and bumped areas.
