ANDRÉ PAUL ARTHUR MASSOULLE 1851 Épernay - 1901 Paris VICTORIOUS GAUL Bronze, brown patina, on a naturalistic plinth. H. 56.5, w. 24, d. 21 cm, weight approx. 9.68 kg. Signed on the side 'A. Massoulle' on the side, foundry stamp 'Thiebaut Frères Fondeurs Paris' on the reverse of the plinth. A fully sculpted depiction of a Gaul in a triumphant pose above a rock base. His hip is covered with an animal skin and he holds a sword in his hands. At his feet is the broken Roman standard S.P.Q.R. with legionary eagle Min. loss of patina and rubbed.
