FRENCH SCULPTOR Active in the 19th century 'PLEURANT' (WEEPING MAN FROM THE TOMB OF DUKE JEAN SANS PEUR) Bronze, dark patina. H. 20, W. 7.5, D. 6 cm, weight approx. 1.14 kg. No. 55. Depiction of a mourning monk (Pleurant), after the famous cycle of figures from the tomb of Jean sans Peur, Duke of Burgundy. The iconographic model can be traced back to the workshop of Claus Sluter and his circle. Mourner with uncovered head, wiping away tears on his cloak with his right hand. Partial loss of patina.
