Description
UNKNOWN SCULPTOR Active 19th/20th century LION AFTER A ROMANESQUE AQUAMANILE Bronze with dark brown and gold patina, on a rectangular marble base (H 4 cm). Total H 16.5, W 15, D 7 cm; weight approx. 2.14 kg. Unsigned. Stylized depiction of a standing lion, modeled after medieval aquamaniles of the 12th/13th centuries. The curved tail arches toward the back like a handle; body and mane feature engraved or chased ornamentation; small mascaron on the chest. Part. bumped and rubbed, loss of paint. Base shows impact damage.
