'LA SURPRISE'

A. BESSERDICH Active 1900-1920 in Austria 'LA SURPRISE' Bronze with gold patina, on an oval plinth and rectangular marble base (H. 6 cm). H. 23, W. 30, D. 13 cm; weight approx. 8.8 kg. Titled on the front; inscribed 'Besserdich' on the back of the plinth. A romanticized bust group depicting a young woman with Cupid. The small, winged Cupid nestles against the young woman from behind, holding a bow in his hands. The title 'La Surprise' (The Surprise) refers to the playful encounter between the young woman and Cupid. Part. bumped and rubbed, loss of paint.
