ERNEST RANCOULET 1842 Bordeaux - 1918 Bordeaux 'LA NUIT, TOUT REPOSE' AND 'RETOUR DU PRINTEMPS' Bronze with brown patina, each on a base. H. 56/57, W. 26/27, D. 25/26 cm. Each signed 'Rancoulet' on the plinth and titled on the front. A pair of allegorical nymph figures. 'La nuit, tout repose' as an allegory of night and repose, and 'Retour du printemps' as an allegory of the return of spring: both are winged, holding a bow and a quiver filled with arrows, and balancing in a dancing pose on a sphere adorned with flowers. Part. bumped and rubbed, loss of paint.
