Description
MAURICE GUIRAUD-RIVIERE 1881 Toulouse - 1947 Paris (after) LA COMÈTE Bronze, silver-plated, wooden base (H. 4 cm). Total height 49.5, width 58, D. 15 cm, weight approx. 8.26 kg. Marked 'Guiraud-Rivière' on the front, 'Etling Paris' on the back, after the original by Guiraud-Rivière. Iconic Art Deco sculpture depicting a naked female figure with floor-length hair, flying above abstract cloud formations. The dynamic, forward-striving movement and the highly stylized lines give the figure a distinctly modern, aerodynamic effect. La Comète is one of Maurice Guiraud-Rivière's best-known designs and exemplifies the aesthetics of the late 1920s, when speed, progress, and elegance became central themes in art. Partially silver-plated, partially bumped. Literature: Catley: Art Déco and other figures, Woodbridge, 1998, p. 169.
