'GÄNSEMÄNNCHEN'

CHRISTOPH LENZ 1829-1915 Nuremberg 'GÄNSEMÄNNCHEN' (Goose Man) Bronze, dark patina, on a square marble base (H. 5.5 cm). Total height 24.5 cm, width 8 cm, depth 7.5 cm; weight approx. 1.9 kg. Inscribed 'Ch Lenz' on the back of the plinth. A reduced-scale version of the famous Nuremberg 'Gänsemännchen'. Fully modeled figure of a man in historicizing Renaissance attire, carrying a goose under each arm, standing on a naturalistically rendered plinth featuring a tree trunk. Shows signs of rubbing and loss of patina in places.
