Description
PAUL ESCHERT Active in the early 20th century 'EUROPE WITH LUTE ON THE BULL' Bronze, dark patina, on rectangular plinth and base (H. 3 cm). Total height approx. 51, width 43, D. 16 cm, weight approx. 13.8 kg. Signed 'P. Eschert' on the plinth, sculptor during National Socialism. Mythological bronze figure group depicting Europa on the bull, but in an unusual iconographic variation with a lute as an attribute. The seated female figure appears calm and elegant, while the bull is rendered powerfully and with an emphasis on movement. Paul Eschert was a German sculptor of the early 20th century whose artistic work during the National Socialist era was characterized by a naturalistic formal language. Through his participation in the 'Great German Art Exhibitions' and the creation of portrait busts of leading representatives of the regime, he was significantly involved in the state's self-representation during this era. Min. bumped, patina refreshed.
