Description
HANS GSELL 1884 Hagenau - 1914 Savonnières 'EDELFALKE' (PERCHED FALCON) c. 1912 Bronze, dark patina, glass eyes; mounted on a tall, octagonal marble base. Total height 94 cm, width 25 cm, depth 29 cm. A fully modeled, naturalistic depiction of a perched falcon in an upright, alert posture. Hans Gsell was a renowned sculptor active during the first half of the 20th century. He created numerous sculptures-including portrait busts and figurative works-often crafted from materials such as bronze and marble. A similar version is illustrated in the 1912 issue of the periodical *Die Rheinlande*. Shows signs of rubbing and minor impact marks; loss of patina. Literature: Cf.
