'ANNA PAWLOWNA EIN REH FÜTTERND'
Description
HUGO LEDERER 1871 Znojmo - 1940 Berlin 'ANNA PAVLOVNA FEEDING A DEER' 1928 Bronze, brown patina, on an elongated plinth. H. 19, w. 32.5, d. 7 cm, weight approx. 4.17 kg. Signed 'Hugo Lederer' on the plinth. Hugo Lederer was an important sculptor known for his expressive sculptures. He was friends with the ballet dancer Anna Pavlovna (also Pavlova 1881-1931) in the 1920s and created a plaster model in 1928 which shows Pavlovna in a crouching pose while a deer or doe carefully approaches her. The original plaster model was destroyed in the fire at the Glaspalast in Munich in 1931. A similar bronze can be found in the Berlinische Galerie (BG-S 0648/78). Min. rubbed and loss of patina.
