KUNISADA II UTAGAWA 1823 - 1880 SUO NO KUNI, KINTAIBASHI ENKEN NO ZU (TRIPTYCH) Japan, 1852 Woodblock print. Ca. 36x24.5 cm. The triptych depicts a view of a bay spanned by the Kintai Bridge in Suo no Kuni, near Hiroshima. The bay is surrounded by forest, with mountains rising in the background. In the foreground, on the shore, a nobleman holding a pipe is attended by a young girl in a furisode kimono offering him his second sword from the right, while a woman on the left presents a tobacco stand. Signed "Ichiyusai Kunisada ga", published by Daikokuya Heihichi. With traces of age. Provenance: From an old private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia, acquired in 1974 from the auction house Lempertz.
