XIAOBAI SU 1949 CHINA UNTITLED (c. 1995) Mixed media on canvas, framed. 100 x 80 x 2 cm. Around 2000, Su Xiaobai began moving away from distinctly Chinese cultural symbols and exploring a universal language of abstract art. During this transitional period, he experimented with new materials, including lacquer - a traditional Chinese craft - while still retaining conventional painting mediums. This work reflects that shift, combining traditional techniques with his early explorations of novel materials. The signature on the reverse was added in 2010-2011 when Su Xiaobai revisited Germany and signed the work for the collector. This act can be seen as a dialogue with the artist's initial exploration of his new creative approach. Overall in good condition.
