Description
A GILT-LACQUERED BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI China, Ming Dynasty Bronze. H. 29.7 cm. Shakyamuni sits on a lotus base with both hands resting on his lap in the Dhyanamudra, holding a bowl. He wears a robe which is fastened around his waist with a ribbon knotted in front, and the robe covering both shoulders, the edge of which is adorned with a band of scrolling foliage. His face bears a serene expression, with downcast eyes beneath arched eyebrows and gently smiling lips. With traces of age and gilding, partially abraded. Provenance: From an old private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
