A FINELY CARVED IVORY 'BIRTHDAY' WRIST REST China, 19th century Ivory. H. 31.4 cm. The wrist rest is carved in high relief to the interior with numbers of immortals including Xi Wangmu, "the Eight Immortals", Li Jing and Nezha, gathered on a terrace, on boats in the river, standing on the riverbank, all on the way to a birthday celebration. The back is carved with an elder sitting under a tree in garden accompanied by a page boy. With traces of use.
