A PAINTING DEPICTING WANG ZHAOJUN China, late Qing Dynasty or republic period Ink and color on paper, framed and under glass. Visible Size 62x130.5 cm (69x137 cm with frame). The painting depicts Wang Zhaojun in red coat, one of the Four Beauties, who was sent to marry the Chanyu of the Xiongnu Empire, standing in the middle with rolling mountains as background. With traces of age, partially damaged. Provenance: From the collection of the German Indologist Hermann Jacobi (1850-1937), acquired in China in early 20th century, then by descent within the family.
