Description
A GILT AND LACQUERED WOOD ZUSHI CONTAINING A LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF KANNON Japan, Edo-Period Wood. H. 40.5 cm. Inside, the figure of Kannon stands on a lotus base resting on a rock formation. His right hand is held in varada mudra, while the left is raised to chest level. He is dressed in a dhoti covering both shoulders. The facial features are finely modeled, displaying a gentle expression. With traces of age, partially abraded, with one area of the metal clasp on the exterior damaged.
