Description
A BRONZE 'PHOENIX AND TREE' BRUSHPOT Japan, Meiji-period Bronze. H. 30.5 cm. The brushpot is decorated with high-relief carvings of three flying phoenixes and a tree over engraved waves, partially painted with gold. With traces of age and use, slightly abraded. Provenance: From an old private collection in the southern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, acquired in 1983 from the auction house Lempertz.
