Description
A BOXWOOD OKIMONO OF ASHINAGA AND TENAGA Japan, Meiji-Period Boxwood. H. 8.5 cm. The okimono is carved with Ashinaga sitting with his legs drawn up, which he clasps with his hands; Tenaga crouches crosswise to his left with his head raised and rests his hands on Ashinaga's knees. An object in Tenaga's hands is missing. With traces of age, partially abraded and cracked. Provenance: From an old private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia, acquired in 1990 from the auction house Lempertz.
