A WOOD NETSUKE OF BENKEI Japan, 19th century Wood. L. 6.2 cm. The netsuke is carved as Benkei with inlaid eyes, wearing the garb of a Yamabushi warrior-priest, seated in a large conch shell and blowing a smaller conch horn. With traces of age and use, partially abraded.
