AN IVORY NETSUKE OF A SHISHI AND CUB Japan, 18th century Ivory. L. 4.8 cm. The netsuke is finely carved as a shishi resting on the ground, its young perched on its back with one leg hanging naturally; The adult shishi, with inlaid eyes, ferociously snarls while holding a loose ball in its mouth, its eyes glaring ahead. The manes of both are finely incised, the strands of the mane and tail fur curling into spirals. With traces of use and age, partially cracked. CITES marketing certificate is available.
