Description
A FINE IVORY NETSUKE OF A SHISHI Japan, 18th/19th century Ivory. H. 5.1 cm. The netsuke is finely carved as a shishi standing with its head lowered to the ground. The shishi, with inlaid eyes, ferociously snarls with a loose ball in its mouth. The mane is finely incised, the strands of the mane and tail fur curling into spirals, and the ribs along its back are clearly defined. Signed "Tomotada" to the back, probably Tomotada-School. With traces of use and age, partially cracked. CITES marketing certificate is available. Please note that due to the current CITES regulations for ivory and tortoiseshell objects, unrestricted trade is only permitted within the European Community. An export license is required for shipment to third countries. Please inform yourself about the current import regulations for ivory and tortoiseshell in your country. It is currently not possible to export ivory to the USA, Canada or England. This item is not legal to sell in the UK.
