Description
A PARCEL GILT-COPPER ALLOY KUNDIKA Tibet, probably 16th century Copper alloy. H. 18.5 cm. The kundika is a religious water vessel, connoting purity, with ancient roots tracing back to the earliest Hindu and Buddhist traditions of India. The proportions and crisp casting of its slender, pointed lotus petals are consistent with Tibetan bronze sculptures of the 15th and 16th centuries. With traces of age, use, and gilding, partially abraded with traces of patination, and slightly damaged. Literature: Compare with a related example of similar scale and composition: Lot 259 from Bonhams, The Triay Collection of Himalayan Art Online, sold 10-16 December 2022. Provenance: From a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
