PROBABLY JERONYMUS OR HIERONYMUS VAN DIEST THE YOUNGER 1631 The Hague - 1687 ibid. SEASCAPE WITH A FRIGATE FIRING A SALUTE Oil on oak panel. 38 x 56 cm. Monogrammed 'STO' on the lower left beam. Verso: Vertically recessed packing. Partially and min: restored, with min: old retouching; a horizontal stress crack has been lightly restored. Frame. Accompanying expert report dated 23 March 2004 by Prof. Dr Jan Kelch (Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin), who considers an attribution to Simon de Vlieger and Cornelis Stooter unlikely and suggests that the work is by Jeronymus van Diest the Younger.
