Description
ROMAN-FLORENTINE SCHOOL OF THE 17TH CENTURY MULTIPLE FIGURE COMPOSITION Pen and ink in grey, black and brown, partially washed. 41.5 x 21.7 cm. Sketch-like but vividly rendered composition with classically proportioned figures. The calm monumentality of the figures and the drawing technique refer to the Roman tradition of the mid-17th century in the circle of Carlo Maratta. Early design drawing, probably created in connection with an altar or fresco project. Slight tear at the lower right edge, partially stained and restored, slight fold marks, two large stains. Provenance: International private collection.
